Residents of Surrey in British Columbia were regularly being sent out of the city to get vital health care in neighbouring towns. The additional travel time sometimes meant the difference between life and death.

Leaving Surrey left a mark. In June 2023, BC’s health minister, Adrian Dix, announced he was expanding Surrey Memorial Hospital and increasing the capacity for more patient care as a direct result of the campaign—including two new cardiac cath labs by 2025.
